The Drawing Room Gallery is pleased to present, “Propelling Wonder”, a solo exhibit of new abstract oil paintings by Cameron Schmitz. This exhibition is on view at The Drawing Room Gallery at 5 Suburban Avenue, Cos Cob, CT and opens on September 30th, coinciding with an artist’s opening reception that same day, 5:30-7:30 pm.

This exciting new exhibit features Schmitz’s dynamic abstract paintings, lush with color harmonies and mark-making. This featured body of work contains intensely colored palettes inspired by the flora of New England during summer. She states, “I use mark-making to express the constantly moving, changing, and morphing of life and nature, leaving observers certain that they are witnessing merely a fleeting moment in time.”

Cameron Schmitz grew up in Fairfield County, CT growing up in Stamford and Cos Cob, CT, where she attended the Greenwich School systems all the way through high school. She received her MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and BFA in Painting & Drawing from the University of New Hampshire, in addition to studying Art and Art History at Studio Arts Centers International in Florence, Italy. Her work has been featured at Fitchburg Art Museum, Green Mountain College, Kyoto Seika University, Emory University, Northern Arizona University Art Museum, Burlington City Arts, Rogue Space in New York, NY and has been steadfastly exhibited by The Drawing Room since 2003. Schmitz now resides with her family in Western Massachusetts where she maintains her studio and is also a painting instructor at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro, VT.

Schmitz’s background in academic figurative and landscape painting inform her abstract motifs, which have become her primary focus of painting since the birth of her first child four years ago. She states, “I have found that being a parent has heightened my senses and my desire to move beyond literal forms and clarified my artistic motivation to express joy, wonder, and a contented unknowing about life, which is messy and intense but always potent with exceptional beauty.”

Propelling Wonder runs September 30- November 29, 2017. The Drawing Room is located on the corner of 220 East Putnam Avenue and 5 Suburban Avenue, in Cos Cob, CT and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am-5pm.
