Dawn to Dusk: New Works by John C. Traynor & Ned Martin at Sorelle Gallery

Join internationally collected artists John C. Traynor and Ned Martin for an artist talk beginning at 6:15pm during their opening reception of Dawn to Dusk, September 20th, 5 – 8 pm at Sorelle Gallery. Traynor will reveal techniques behind his masterful, distinctive use of color and light. Martin will discuss how he arrives at his fantastic, meticulously rendered compositions. Sip your favorite wine and indulge in Gates Restaurant’s hor d’oeuvres as you mingle!

Establishing atmosphere and mood through composition, pigment, and painterly texture is essential to John C. Traynor’s process. His painting style references 19th century painters and the Dutch Masters. Constant travel and painting on location is a prime source of inspiration for his landscapes. His art studies began at Delbarton School in Morristown, New Jersey. From there, he furthered his education at Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut, and studied figure painting at the Art Students League of New York, as a merit scholar, with Frank Mason. In Vermont, he continued his art studies with Mason, and Carroll N. Jones Jr.; and later received sculpture instruction from Brother Jerome Cox in Florence, Italy.

Like Traynor, Ned Martin paints on location to help shape his artistic vision – the River Seine in Paris, Scotland, and Italy’s vineyards. As a Brooklyn-based artist, the hectic energy of New York City informs his fractal-like grid techniques, while his subjects of nature and community derive from his childhood memories of rural Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland. Martin’s work is a commentary on our global society, and the idea that everything is connected as one. After studying Fine Arts at Towson State University in Maryland, Martin continued his formal art training at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore. Embracing his training and meticulous process, Martin continues to grind his own paints.
