Samuel Owen Gallery is pleased to highlight a collection of recent work by internationally renowned artist Hunt Slonem with a solo exhibition titled, “Vivid,” in our Greenwich Gallery. We are thrilled to host Slonem’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, featuring a variety of multi-media works by the artist, including paintings, sculptures, and glow boxes.
Slonem embraces the ephemeral beauty of nature, a characteristic that brings a nurturing, spiritual effect to his creations. Throughout his extensive career as a New York artist, Slonem has favored the subject of rabbits, butterflies, and exotic birds. Loosely inspired by artists of the German Expressionism movement, his paintings have typically consisted of flat spaces with simple forms pushed to the front of the picture plane and expressive, highly textural brushstrokes that are full of intense color. Expanding on his impressive body of iconic imagery, Slonem continues to boldly push his unique vision. Discovering new forms for his animals in hand-blown glass, neon, and other illuminating raw materials, the artist’s impressive career spanning almost five decades enters a new phase of growth.
“This new body of work was borne out of these unexpected times. Given an unexpected opportunity to create work in an entirely new methodology, what has resulted is an artistic liberation of sorts. My established lexicon of forms has taken on new life in blown glass, bronze, and other media, all in a visual culmination that is thrilling to me artistically. This moment in time has proven to be an impetus for an ever-expanding vocabulary of new work and I’m pleased to share it with you.” – Hunt Slonem
