Samuel Owen Gallery is thrilled to host James Verbicky for his upcoming solo exhibition, Utopia, in our Greenwich, Connecticut gallery. Verbicky is best known for his “media paintings” in which he cuts positive messages of peace, kindness, and beauty from magazines and posters and uses the clippings as his palette to create a perfect world where love conquers all.
Verbicky begins his process by meticulously arranging paper collages in a horizontal grid, adhering them to canvas strips, and then mounting the canvas on a birchwood panel. He further enhances the printed material with paint and stencils. Finally, he bends the strips and applies a resin topcoat, giving the works added depth and dimension.
Verbicky collaborates frequently with philanthropic organizations, using his artwork to contribute to nonprofits like the Waterkeeper Alliance and the Art of Elysium. His work has garnered international attention with exhibitions in Berlin, Bangkok, New York City, Boston, and Los Angeles to name a few. His artworks are also found in numerous private, public, and celebrity collections worldwide.
