About the Artist
Sergey has diverse educational and professional experience in a variety of art forms, from set design to book arts. He has been an active artist since the 1970s. His current focus is painting, influenced by the traditions of 20th Century Russian Art and the renowned Spanish painter Pablo Picasso.
When asked what he admires most about Picasso, Sergey said: “His absolute freedom of style and expression.” Picasso’s influence can be seen in Sergey’s use of art for self-expression. His abstract and unexpected forms are coded with his personal hopes and fears.
He moved to the United States from Russia in 1995. Moving to a foreign country had its challenges, but also provided exciting professional opportunities. Within 3 months, he had participated in several exhibitions in Darien and New York City. Today, he works from a studio in Norwalk, and SPAG, an active community of artists located in the Oakhill Mansion.
