The Flinn Gallery is pleased to present Self, assembled, an exploration of identity through collage, featuring the work of artists Rodriguez Calero, Kevin Hetzel, and Jason Noushin. In these artists’ hands, the collage technique provides a complex visual metaphor for the hybrid and fluid nature of identity itself. Using different approaches, each artist delves into their own background, drawing imagery from personal and collective spheres, from history, culture, religion, race, gender, or family. By distorting our familiar perspective, Calero, Hetzel, and Noushin compel us to look anew at the fixed narratives that define and pin us down, opening up fresh possibilities for re-imagining the concept of identity and of the self.
Co-curated by Flinn Gallery Members Isabelle Schiavi and Kirsten Pitts, Self, assembled will be on view at the Flinn Gallery on the 2nd Floor of Greenwich Library from December 15 to February 1, 2023.
